2006 Book #1

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell — Theodicy as science fiction. Really outstanding, highly recommended. Quite possibly my favorite novel of all time. I also read the sequel, Children of God, but found it much less satisfying.

By a recommendation from Mister Ginger, I too have read this book. It is very compelling, but be warned - this is not a kid's book. As I was drawn towards the climax, I could almost hear myself saying, "oh no, oh no, oh no." Quite powerful and very intriguing. Thanks Mister Ginger!

Let us know if we should read the sequel.

I ordered it through Interlibrary loan today.

Wow, I just finished it. Very powerful stuff. The OT student in me appreciated (if that's the right word) Jeremiah's rape language in reference to God.

Depressing stuff. Kadie asked if she would like it...I think not.
